travel guide to Nohkalikai Falls one of the highest waterfall in India .

Today's article is about a beautiful place up in the mountains. The name of this place is nohkalikai falls. It is a breathtaking waterfall and is also one of the highest waterfalls in India. It has shown a lot of dramatic changes in the past .

There have been some claims where this waterfall is said to be the 4th height in the world although in numbers it is said to be 335m tall.which indeed makes it one of the highest in the world.

Introduction

The nohkalikai falls have their own wild natural beauty the same as all other waterfalls have their sound and the beauty of waterfalls can make anyone fall in love with the view and feeling. The nohkalikai falls is one of the best places if you are planning to visit Meghalaya . The absolute beauty of this fall will blow your mind. The view of the waterfall and the green forest all around it will make it a lifetime memory. When you will visit here by seeing the whole view you will realize that this mountain is a hidden gem which you can not find in any Metro cities.

Best time to visit

As you must have assumed by now that the view of this waterfall is amazing and is worth visiting but there only one problem is that you will face rainy weather and since  nohkalikai falls is located near Cherrapunji things are going to be a bit more hard.

It rains a lot and the rain is so hard that visiting anywhere is hard without being wet.

So far as we can suggest, the best time to visit waterfalls in Meghalaya are from October to December and from March to may. Weather during these months is considerably good and less rainy which will indeed help you a lot of you are planning to visit there .

How to reach there ?

The nearest airport is Umroi airport which is 35km away from the fall but we suggest you Guwahati airport which is most commonly used for the travellers flying from other parts of the country. The Guwahati airport is around 50km away from Shillong and you can easily find a bus or Can from Guwahati to Shillong. The nearest railway connectivity is in Guwahati too. The water is situated in the Cherrapunji which again is a 53km long journey from Shillong.

Nohkalikai falls Legend

As the beauty of this fall is heart touching, the same as that there is a story behind it and that can break your heart especially if you are going to know about it it's not a love story like Taj Mahal kind of couple goals but it is really painful one and lesser known.

There was a woman named Ka Likai who lived there with her husband and had a sweet little daughter. Everything was going fine but their happiness did not last long. Her husband died in an accident and the load of the whole family came on the shoulders of Ka Likai .

Ka Likai was forced to remarry because of the society of that time as well as she knew that her young daughter needed a father .

She started working as a porter to earn bread for the family but things didn't go well here . Her new husband started to be jealous of her love towards her daughter.

One day when Ka Likai was out for work he killed the little daughter of her and cooked a meal of her meat.

As a natural need of human being when she came back from her work she was hungry and when she saw a well cooked meal by her husband she ate it without thinking much.

It was when she went to have her usual betel leaves afterwards that she realized her mistake. She found fingers of her daughter in the betel leaf case. When the realization dawned on her she went mad and started running till she jumped over the edge of the cliff into the plunge waterfalls and ended her life. The word ‘noh’ in the local language means jump. So the meaning of the name of the falls is the place from where Ka Likai jumped.

I said before that it will hurt you because of the sadness of the story. The story is sad but place is beautiful . I also never expected this kind of sad ending but we can't do much about what's gone. So this was our travel guide about the Nohkalikai Falls we will be posting more articles related to traveling all across India so keep checking us out every day because there will be more stories like this which will come out along with the more places to visit all over India.
